If you know me through Sprout and Blossom, you already know how much I believe in the power of nature, play, and childhood wonder. Now, I’m planting a new seed in that same soil—and I’m beyond excited to share it with you.
I’m officially on the journey to becoming a children’s picture book author!
This isn’t just a career pivot—it’s a heartfelt extension of the work I’ve already been doing with children: encouraging them to slow down, notice the world around them, get their hands in the dirt, and feel a deep sense of connection with nature. My debut picture book is currently in the works, and it’s a project that feels like the perfect companion to everything Sprout and Blossom stands for.
A Story That Grows
The book I’m writing is a rhyming picture book that celebrates nature, curiosity, and the small wonders hiding in the world outside. It’s designed to speak directly to children—but also to resonate with educators, parents, and caregivers who believe that some of the best lessons can be found outside. Through playful rhythm and lyrical language, the book will take young readers on a gentle journey that inspires observation, imagination, and appreciation for the natural world.
A Natural Extension of Sprout and Blossom
For years, I’ve seen firsthand how children come alive when they’re outdoors—when they’re given space to explore, experiment, and just be. I’ve watched muddy hands and wide eyes. I’ve heard questions sparked by beetles, blossoms, and clouds. And I’ve felt the gap that sometimes exists between childhood and the earth beneath our feet. This book is my way of bridging that gap—of bringing more nature into storytime, and more storytelling into nature.
Aligned with Sprout and Blossom
What makes this journey feel even more meaningful is how naturally it fits with my small business, Sprout and Blossom. Our mission has always been to nurture children’s love of learning through outdoor education, gardening, and hands-on experiences.
This picture book is like a literary extension of our program. It’s something educators can use in the classroom or the garden. It’s something parents can read under a tree. And it’s something I hope will spark lifelong wonder in the hearts of little readers.
What’s Next?
This book feels like the next step in our journey at Sprout and Blossom. It reflects everything we value—creativity, nature, learning, and heart. Whether read aloud in a classroom, under a shady tree, or before bedtime, it’s meant to spark a sense of connection with the natural world.
Right now, I’m deep in the creative process—refining the rhyme, shaping the message, and envisioning the illustrations. As I move through the writing and publishing process, I’ll be starting the crowdfunding process through a Kickstarter campaign, sharing behind-the-scenes updates, sneak peeks, and (eventually!) a release date. I can’t wait to invite you deeper into this journey.
To everyone who has supported Sprout and Blossom, inspired my storytelling, or simply believed in the magic of children and nature—thank you. Thank you for believing in this dream with me.This is for you, and for the next generation of explorers.
With wonder and excitement,
Gloria O'Hare- Founder, Sprout and Blossom
